Is Ceramic Coating Right for You?

Ceramic coating is a great investment for the right vehicle and the right owner. It is not for everyone. Here is how to tell.

Good fit for ceramic coating
  • You just bought a new vehicle and want to protect it from day one
  • You own a dark-colored car and are tired of swirl marks after every wash
  • You want easier maintenance and less time cleaning
  • You plan to keep the vehicle long-term and want to maintain resale value
  • You own a BMW, Porsche, Tesla, Cadillac, Mercedes, Corvette, or similar
Probably not the right fit
  • You are looking for rock chip protection (you want PPF instead)
  • You want scratch-proof paint (that does not exist)
  • You use automatic tunnel car washes regularly and plan to keep using them
  • You are looking for the cheapest option available

How It Compares

Wax vs Sealant vs Ceramic Coating

Three different products, three different levels of commitment. Here is how they actually compare.

Wax Sealant Ceramic Coating
How long it lasts 2-4 weeks 3-6 months 3-5 years
UV protection Minimal Moderate Strong
Chemical resistance None Light Strong
Swirl resistance None None Light resistance
Gloss / depth Good Good Exceptional
Maintenance Reapply monthly Reapply every few months Wash only
Typical cost $30-80 $150-300 $950-2,400

Ceramic coating costs more upfront but eliminates years of repeated waxing and reapplication. For most owners, it pays for itself in time saved alone.

Why This Costs What It Costs

You are not paying for
"some coating."

You are paying for decontamination, paint correction, controlled application, curing, inspection, and aftercare. The coating is the last step, not the only one.

What is on most vehicles before we start
Swirl marks under inspection light
Swirl Marks
Water spots and mineral etching on hood
Water Spots & Etching
Paint defects under inspection lighting
Haze & Surface Contamination

Ceramic coating locks in whatever is on your paint. Permanently. If your shop skips paint correction, they are sealing in every swirl, water spot, and scratch you see above. We correct every panel first.

Corrected, then coated

This is what you are paying for. Corrected paint sealed under ceramic. Not a coating slapped over whatever was already there.

Honest Expectations

What ceramic coating does not do.

Most shops overpromise. We would rather you know exactly what you are getting.

Does not prevent rock chips. That is PPF (paint protection film), a different product entirely.
Does not make paint scratch-proof. It resists light swirls and contamination, not physical impact.
Does not replace washing. It makes washing significantly easier and faster, but your car still needs to be washed.
Does not fix damaged paint by itself. That is why every one of our packages includes paint correction first.
What Happens After You Request a Quote

The Full Process

Most packages take one to two days at our Parkville shop.

1
Quote & Consult

We ask about your vehicle, paint condition, and goals. Then recommend the right package and schedule your drop-off.

2
Wash & Decontaminate

Full hand wash, iron removal, clay bar, and chemical decontamination. All contamination is removed before we touch the paint with a polisher.

3
Paint Correction

One-step or two-step machine polishing to remove swirls, scratches, water spots, and oxidation. Every panel inspected under dedicated lighting.

4
Coat, Cure & Inspect

Ceramic coating applied in a controlled environment. Cured under proper conditions. Final inspection. We walk you through care instructions at pickup.

FAQ

Common Questions

If you do not see your question here, just call.

Call (816) 200-2581
Is ceramic coating worth it?
If you plan to keep the vehicle and you care about how it looks, yes. Ceramic coating reduces wash time, protects against UV and chemical damage, and maintains resale value. If you do not plan to keep the vehicle or you use automatic car washes regularly, it is probably not the right investment.
Do I need paint correction before coating?
Yes, always. Ceramic coating permanently locks in whatever is on the paint. If your shop does not correct the paint first, they are sealing in every swirl, scratch, and water spot. Every one of our packages includes paint correction.
How long does the process take?
One to two days at our Parkville shop. The timeline depends on vehicle size, paint condition, and which package you choose. We will give you an honest estimate when you book.
Can I go through automatic car washes after?
We strongly recommend against it. Automatic car washes use brushes that create the same swirl marks we just spent a day removing. Hand wash with pH-neutral soap and a quality wash mitt. We will go over care instructions in full at pickup.
How soon can the vehicle get wet after coating?
We will give you specific timing based on the product and curing conditions, but generally 24 to 48 hours. Avoid rain, sprinklers, and washing during the initial cure window.
What is the difference between coating and wax?
Wax lasts weeks. Ceramic coating lasts years. Wax sits on top of paint temporarily. Ceramic bonds to it chemically. They are not the same category of product.
Can you do ceramic coating at my house?
No. Paint correction and ceramic coating require controlled lighting, temperature, humidity, and dust-free conditions. We do mobile detailing and maintenance washes at your home, but coating work is always done at our Parkville shop.
What is the difference between Signature and Ultimate?
Signature covers all painted surfaces, glass, trim, lights, and wheel faces. Ultimate goes further: wheels are fully removed and coated inside and out, brake calipers and exhaust tips are coated, and paint correction is done panel-by-panel with more thoroughness.
